听老人说，早年间有这么三个出关外憋宝的南蛮子，王生，刘生和张生，各自离家入东北地界已经两年多了还是一无所获，便打算搭伴摸进长白山去闯闯。

这天三人赶路直到天晚，前不着村后不着店，只能借宿在荒郊野岭的一个破土地庙里，生火烧水，吃过干粮，三个人便在厢屋的一个破炕上挤着睡下了。

她死后不久，四个孩子又没得吃食，经不住饿，最后就在那间厢屋里，开始互相咬身上的肉吃，结果都死在那炕上，碰巧屋子地基四角埋着四坛金子，因为是前朝古物，四个孩子的魂魄就附在金子上成了精，专吃过往留宿的人。
刘生和王生就是被他们吃掉了。
