在撒哈拉沙漠边缘的非洲某国，一天晚上，中国派驻的医疗援助队伍接到一个求救电话，在四百公里以外的一个城市，有一个人病人已经奄奄一息，需要医疗队派人尽快救治。

医疗队的资深老中医——范老自告奋勇地接下了这个紧急的出诊任务。

今年是范老服役的最后一年。
他医术精湛，从青年时代就出国对落后国家和地区进行医疗援助，多年来兢兢业业，救死扶伤，为中国人在当地赢得了赞誉。
范老有一个自己的小“规矩”，那就是，每次回国之前，他都要救治一个病人，否则，范老说自己坐飞机都不安稳。
而这次的出诊，则更显得意义非同寻常，因为这是范老在本国的最后一次出诊。
今天是他退休前的最后一天，而再过一个星期，他就要乘机回国，和亲人团聚了。
